Aftercare
Caring for your new tattoo.
Good aftercare protects your investment and helps your tattoo heal beautifully. The guidance below is general — always follow the specific instructions your artist gives you.
The healing timeline
First few hours
Leave the covering on for the length of time your artist tells you. When you remove it, gently wash the area with clean hands and a mild, fragrance-free soap, then pat dry.
First two weeks
Keep the tattoo clean and lightly moisturized with the product your artist recommends. Avoid soaking, direct sun and picking at any flaking as it heals.
Long-term
Once healed, protect your tattoo from sun exposure with sunscreen to keep it looking its best for years to come.
While it heals, avoid
- Submerging in pools, hot tubs, lakes or baths while healing
- Direct sun exposure and tanning on a fresh tattoo
- Picking, scratching or peeling scabs and flakes
- Tight clothing that rubs against the fresh tattoo
If you notice anything that concerns you during healing, contact the studio or seek medical advice. Your artist can answer questions specific to your tattoo.
